On the way to Araku Valley, Kasipatnam is 73 kilometres from Visakhapatnam. According to a report, the tree temple is 400 years old. It’s the Uma Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was once a small, popular temple that drew a large number of visitors, including some members of the royal family.
With the passage of time and the changing political landscape in our country, patronage dwindled, and people began to forget about the temple. A banyan tree near the temple began to grow and eventually covered the temple. With no one to keep an eye on the tree, it grew to cover the majority of the temple over time.

Temples To Visit In Visakhapatnam
The locals believe that the prayers of devotees who visit the temple are never in vain. Pitala Govindraju of Gajuwaka is a well-known example. After offering prayers to the temple, the childless man was soon blessed with two children. He added new structures to the temple as a token of his gratitude, such as steps and tiles on the sanctum sanctorum’s interior walls.
Though no one knows when the temple was built, tribals believe it happened by chance. However, based on the bricks used in construction and the age of the banyan tree that grew around the temple, some of the less educated among them claim it was built more than 400 years ago, according to another local Doddi Dharma.
The state department of archaeology, on the other hand, is completely unaware of this temple. K. Chitti Babu, assistant director of the AP State Department of Archaeology and Museums, said, “Such a unique tree-temple deserves to be protected, but we have yet to see it. We’ll go to Kasipatnam Temple and try to figure out how old it is by looking at the statues, deities, and inscriptions.”
