It covers an area of about 1,832 acres and extends from Munagapaka to Atchutapuram mandals, nestled along the foothills of the Eastern Ghats and surrounded by the Bay of Bengal. On one side, majestic hills surround the Kondakarla Ava lake, and on the other, coconut trees.
The lake is thought to support twenty-one villages along the Sarada River in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is home to evergreen forests that are endangered.

The Kondakarla Ava Bird Sanctuary is about 50 kilometres from Vizag city centre. There aren’t many options for getting to the location. However, the following are some of the most effective modes of transportation

- Vizag has no direct bus service. You must first travel to Anakapalle, from where you will board one of several buses that will take you to the sanctuary.
