Araku Tribal Museum, located only 200 metres from Araku Bus Station, is a wonderful place to learn about the tribal culture of the Eastern Ghats.It is one of Araku Valley’s most popular tourist attractions.
The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation founded this museum in 1996. In the surrounding area of Araku Valley, there are 19 tribes. The museum’s goal is to raise awareness about tribal culture and way of life. The Araku Tribal Museum is not a historical site, but it does provide information about the tribes who live here today.
The Araku Tribal Museum is divided into two levels and depicts tribal life using mud and real metals. The museum has been designed to show tribal life in action, beginning with a kitchen that features iron and mud utensils. At the entrance, a series of ten photographs depicting a tribal wedding ceremony is very interesting. The museum’s passageways, which connect various sections, are made of mud walls adorned with tribal drawings and artwork. The section of the Tribal Museum dedicated to local tribal Mayur and Dhimsa dance is the most impressive.

Several clay monuments depict their day-to-day activities, which are on display at the museum. Jewellery, hunting tools, and kitchen utensils are among the tribal people’s artefacts on display. The museum is well-equipped with sign boards that provide visitors with the necessary information. The museum has a stall where the tribes’ handicrafts can be purchased. The museum also has a Tribal Art and Crafts Centre, which hosts workshops and exhibitions to promote tribal art.
