King George Hospital (abbreviated as KGH) is an Indian government general hospital in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. It is Andhra Pradesh’s largest and busiest government hospital.
In the year 1923, the hospital was founded. Administrative buildings, wards, operation theatres, nursing school and college, students hostels, libraries, auditorium, lecture galleries, laboratories, and other facilities are all located within the precincts of about 27 acres on a sandy hill. There are 50 buildings with multiple entrances, some of which are surrounded by slums, all of which were built at different times.
Not only in Visakhapatnam city/district and surrounding districts, but also in neighbouring states of Orissa and Chhattisgarh, the Hospital provides health care to those in need.
The hospital has a bed capacity of 1037 beds, with an additional 240 beds in a Super specialty block that has not yet been officially sanctioned. On an average day, the hospital sees 1250 out-patients, 115 to 130 admissions, 110 emergency cases, and 60 to 70 surgeries, including those of critical nature. A total of 5000 to 7000 attendants visit the hospital on a monthly basis.
