The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will launch a ‘Coffee with Corporators’ outreach programme to hear representations and grievances from elected Corporators, in a first-of-its-kind initiative.
Unlike a typical redressal event, corporation officials will spend a whole day with Corporators, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and NGOs. Corporators from Zone I may be invited to the first meeting, which will likely begin on January 5.
“At the last council meeting, we noticed that the Corporators had a lot of issues to bring up, and we didn’t have a lot of time to do so.” The company will be presented to the Corporators this time. “From morning until evening, the Mayor, Commissioner, and Department Heads will meet with them and listen to their concerns,” GVMC Commissioner G. Lakshmisha said.
The programme, he said, would be carried out zone by zone as part of the strategy. There are 10 to 12 wards in each zone. He explained that the goal was to give each Corporator enough time to bring the problems to our attention.
Mr. Lakshmisha stated that the GVMC would collate complaints/representations and categorise the concerns into three categories to address them: short-term, medium-term, and long-term. Sanitation, drainage, and other problems are among the immediate concerns. Difficulties requiring money and authorization may be among the medium and long-term issues. According to him, this would provide an overview of all the concerns in the wards as well as the steps needed to address them in the next few years.
Because compiling the representations would take time, there would be at least a one-week delay between meetings. Because of the larger number of wards in some Zones, such as VI and VII, the programme would be held across two days in each.
