On the promise of Mayor G Hari Venkata Kumari, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has committed to build open-air gyms in each of Visakhapatnam’s wards. On Tuesday, April 12th, 2022, an open-air gym was opened in the green belt region of Sanjeev Gandhi Colony, Ward 9. A. Vijaya Nirmala, the Chairperson of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), and Corporator K. Swathi were also present. The initial event was also attended by the ward’s local youngsters.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor praised the GVMC’s efforts to bring varied gym equipment to the public’s doorstep, as well as encouraging the public to live an active and healthy lifestyle. “The true wealth is health,” the Mayor stated.
The ward development plan has been sanctioned for each ward in Visakhapatnam City, and the GVMC intends to use it to its maximum capacity for the betterment of the city, according to the Mayor. In order to promote sanitation and cleanliness in the city, the GVMC has initiated a number of programmes. The GVMC’s most notable project is its campaign to eliminate single-use plastic. Officials have been working tirelessly to achieve this goal, raising awareness and enforcing commercial use bans.
All of the leaders who attended this occasion recognised and appreciated the GVMC’s efforts, which prioritised the health of the people. One of the efforts taken toward this goal is the creation of open-air gyms in Visakhapatnam.
