Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) Has Been Nominated as an Institutional Member In The World Association Of Zoos And Aquariums

Nandani Salaria, the curator of the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP), stated that the zoo has been accepted as an institutional member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). WAZA is a worldwide alliance of regional organisations, national federations, zoos, and aquariums dedicated to the care and conservation of animals and their environments.

Ms. Salaria stated in a press statement on Wednesday that being a part of this collaboration will benefit the IGZP in a variety of ways. According to her, WAZA membership entails a high standard of husbandry, veterinary care, participation in coordinated species management programmes, contribution to relevant scientific studies, compliance with national and international legislation, environmental education programmes, conservation activities, and support of regional and national associations.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, and other organisations will now be connected to the IGZP as a result of this association, according to the Curator.
