Venugopala Swamy Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Venugopala Swamy. The Kings of Bobbili built Bobbili. The family deity (Kula Daivam) of the Bobbili Royal family was Venugopala Swamy. The temple is close to the royal palace and can be easily reached by bus or train. Venugopala Swamy, the main deity, lives here with his consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama.

History of Bobbili Venugopala Swamy Temple

The Venugopala Swamy temple is an ancient temple that dates back to Bobbili’s earliest days. King Bobbili, Chinna Ranga Rao of the Bobbili dynasty, constructed the current form of the temple. He constructed the famous Venugopala Swamy temple in Bobbili, which is close to the royal palace. Swetha Chalapati Ranga Rao constructed the Temple tower (Raja Gopuram) at the entrance in 1851 AD. In 1825 AD, King Krishna Das Ranga Rao constructed mantaps inside the temple.

In the waters of Narayana Pushkarini, the Vasanth Mantap stands alone (Temple Tank). The Utsava deities are brought to this Pushkarini for Teppostsavam celebrations every year at the beginning of spring. Lord Venugopala will go for a boat ride with His Consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama (Teppa). After a day of celebrations, the idol will be kept in Dola Yatra Mantap on the banks of the Pushkarini for a day before being carried to the main temple.

Bobbili Venu Gopala Swamy Temple’s Architecture

In the Narayana Pushkarini waters, the Vasanth Mantap stands alone (Temple Tank). The Gopuram of this temple is higher than the main temple, making it unique in the region. The Gopuram’s base is solid stone, with stone and brick masonry forming the six stories above it. The Gopuram is approximately 9 metres tall at its base.
