History of Annavaram Temple
According to legend, after being ordained by Lord in a dream, Raja, also known as Ramarayanam, was the then-zamindar of the Gorasa and Kirlampudi estates near Samalkot. On Sravanasuddhavidiya in the Telugu year khara 1891, he traced the idol on the hill and worshipped and installed it at this location.
The temple was built on a hill with views of the Bay of Bengal, which is 11 miles away, and a row of the majestic Eastern Ghats on the other side. Ratnagiri is surrounded on all sides by hills and the Pampa River. The main hillock rises about 300 feet above sea level, with 460 well-laid stone steps leading to the summit.
The main temple is built in the shape of a chariot, with four wheels at each corner. The front of the main temple features modern architecture, including a Kalyanamantapa. There is a Ramalaya down the road, and then there are shrines to Vana Durga, who is revered, and the Devi is said to be seen there at night, according to the holy precincts that eternally guard the lord.

Darshan is available from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
